To make a referral to Dr Barr it is necessary to have a referral letter from GP or health provider.
Dr Barr sees patients on a self-pay basis, or covered by the Bupa insurance company.
Appointments are more effective when done in person, so that is preferable. Video call appointments are available if preferred for repeat appointments.
Initial assessment - £500 for 60 minute appointment
Follow up appointments - £225 per 30 minutes
Neurodevelopmental assessments - assessing for a neurodevelopmental disorder such as ADHD, ADD, or Autism Spectrum Condition requires at least two full appointments, along with a significant length of time requesting and collating information from multiple sources (including educational establishments). That information must be considered together, and a detailed report produced explaining the detail and outcome of any assessment, including if there are any co-morbid mental health disorders such as anxiety or depression.
The total fee for a neurodevelopmental assessment (often requested for ADHD or ASC) is £2,000, reflecting the amount of work required to assess a young person thoroughly and produce a report to the requisite standard.
In some cases (where there are traits of ADHD/ASC present, but further specialist assessment is required, a further assessment might be required with another profession such as Speech and Language Therapist or Psychologist which would need to be paid for separately, or a QB Test might be necessary as part of assessment for ADHD (which costs £200, paid to the clinic that carries out these tests).
Prescriptions issued outside of clinic appointment - £60 for Controlled Drugs (often used to treat ADHD), otherwise £30
Dr Barr accepts patients covered by BUPA.
Please note - insurance companies usually do not cover the full cost or time required to do a comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessment, therefore, in line with many other clinicians, Dr Barr is currently unable to accept requests for assessment of ADHD/ASC via insurance companies unless the insurance company has confirmed they will support the assessment.
